Listen up everyone, stop what you’re doing now, and do this right now: on your phone, create a calendar alert (to yourself) for the 21st of July 2018, with this entry: “Wear something pink today to celebrate the freedom to love”.
Done? Very good. Let’s continue.
This year marks the 10th Anniversary of the Pink Dot campaign in Singapore, and what started as a mere 1,000 person-picnic event at Hong Lim Park has evolved into an annual event for the LGBTIQ community in Singapore, with a phenomenal attendance of over 20,000 people, all of whom believe in the freedom to love.
This year, with the addition of Pinkfest – which constitutes a month of cool fringe activities that support the main event on 21 July – there will be so many more opportunities for everyone to get involved in the celebrations and show their support, including those who are not allowed to attend the main event (i.e., foreigners and non-Singapore companies). Regardless of who you are – Singaporean or foreigner; LGBTIQ or straight ally, this year’s Pink Dot promises to be more exciting than ever for you.
So come on out (yes pun intended!) on the 21st of July, stand united and paint our Lion City pink. To help you get started, here are 10 hot pink ideas you can embrace.
