Don’t leave home without (the right pair of) pants on! Pants are the foundation of your outfit, and picking the right color and fit makes sure your whole look is on point. It might not be as obvious as it sounds, but fit is very important for pants. Too tight, and it can cut off the blood circulation to your legs and…well, no further explanation needed. Too loose, and you’ll be looking like Snoop Dogg, pants hanging off your bottom.
Now, how can you find the perfect fit? The easiest way to check is to pinch the side of your pants and make sure there isn’t more than two fingers worth of fabric up and down your leg. The exception is around your ankles, where a little bit more breathing room is perfectly fine. Also, your pants should gently hug your bum, instead of squeezing it tight.
For your capsule wardrobe, you’ll only need three pairs of pants. Believe it or not, they’re all jeans. You’ll need them in black, white, and indigo blue. Just be extra careful on that last color because it’s a very specific shade of dark denim. Especially with jeans, I recommend investing in high quality pieces for that perfect fit, comfort and durability.
The last (and probably the least) bottom you would need in your capsule wardrobe is one pair of shorts. I own a pair of distressed black jean shorts because they are easy to match. Find a pair in one of the six essential colors – black, white, grey, navy, olive green, baby blue – that fits your personal style, and more importantly, you.
There you go! You’ve got your bottom covered. Remember fit. Nail it, and you’ll look like a boss every time. Next up, how to wear jackets to make each outfit interesting and unique.
Remember, fashion trends change, but style is timeless. If you are convinced it is time for you to create your own style through a capsule wardrobe, stay tuned right here for the next installments. I will guide you step by step on just how to build that foolproof wardrobe. Once you go capsule, you’ll never go back. Trust me.
