Ciao bellissimo is what we say to the many stylish gents who turned up for the 88th Pitti Uomo trade show. The paucity of public media coverage inside the events shifted most of the attention – ours and that of many roving photographers – onto the street, and there’s no better place than Florence to sit down and people-watch.

Some may call them “peacocks”, but if not for a men’s fashion event, when should a guy dress to the nines and give his best shot? The street style for a traditional event like Pitti Uomo tends to lean towards the conservative side, with men on a warm summer’s day decked out in double-breasted and three-piece suits.

As with all summer shows, there was an unspoken code to turn out in bright colour – fuschia, turquoise, orange suits all tailored to a tee – adding some vibrance to the capital of the Renaissance. We’d like to think such vividness was exactly what Florence boasted in its golden years.
