This April and May, Singapore’s fashion scene gets busy with 2 major fashion events – Men’s Fashion Week Singapore 2012(18-22 April) & Audi Fashion Festival (16-20 May). More about the Audi Fashion Festival in another post, but let’s look the lineup this year for the Men’s Fashion Week Singapore.

Touted as the 1st in Asia and 3rd in the world (after Paris and Milan), Men’s Fashion Week (MFW) Singapore 2012 is back for the second year round. Titled sponsored by  The Shoppes at Marina Bays Sands with the support of the Singapore Tourism Board, the event this year will costs an estimated $8 million to mount, with up to 19 inspiring shows from international, regional and local menswear labels and designers over the 5-day event at the Sands Expo and Convention Centre. The event this year will also see the merging of fashion and music together by highlighting, within the fashion week,  emerging as well as established talents in the music industry, and words has it that .

The Men’s Fashion Week will see 19 shows from brands from various parts of the world including UK, US, Germany, Japan and Korea. The Opening Gala on 18th April, will feature not one but two shows, featuring internationally-acclaimed labels – Spencer Hart(UK) & Songzio(Korea)– and closing on the 22 April with Germany’s luxury brand MCM, with what is promised to be a spectacular show.

For those of you who is not familiar with Spencer Hart, it is a burgeoning Savile Row brand that counts stars like Jay-Z, Kanye West, Robbie Williams, David Bowie, Matthew Williamson, Tommy Hilfger and many others, as clients. It has enjoyed tremendous success since it’s launch in 2002 and recently received the Luxury Briefing, Men’s Luxury Brand of the Year Award, 2012. Those who attended the Men’s Fashion Week last year would remember Songkio as the hugely succesful Korea label that has success both at home and in Paris. Within South Korea itself, the revered label boasts of megawatt star fans in the likes of 2PM, Rain, Super Junior, TVXQ, Won Bin, to name just a few.

  • From USA: Richard Chai
  • From Germany: MCM

Last but not least, World Runway II, the second installment of a fashion styling competition that was inaugurated last year, will also be using MFW Singapore 2012’s platform to showcase the ingenuity and talent of stylists from Singapore, Japan, and the UK.
